general kinds of laser cutting machines
Laser cutting machines generally use a focussed laser beam to heat a small area on the material to be cut. A jet of gas (often Oxygen) blows the molten material out the back side of the cut. Once you arrange some reletive motion between the laser beam and the material, you are cutting.
Machines may be characterized by maximum size of material, min/max thickness of material, maximum output power of the laser, and manner of moving the laser beam and/or the material.
